I studied wood material and well.. it is complicated 🙂 It is very reflective in low view angles, while almost diffuse in normal direction. It is glossy with very low roughness. The most glossy part, catching light are where the wood texture gets intense. Until this part I tried to get it work in clean state.

Wood plates has a layer of dirt on top, I am not sure whether to implement that in texture or go on in Postproduction. I will try that later.

Meanwhile I try some moods for weather..

‘Every work of art is the mirror of another’ L.K.Nowak (1913)

My intention is to create an image of the museum through the concept of reflection.

Reflection (mirror) is a resource widely used in arts (painting, sculpture, film, music, etc …) on which I would like to develop in the challenge.

‘I used to live in a room full of mirrors. All I could see was me’ Jimi Hendrix, Room full of mirrors.

First i studied the project plans and photos provided on ArchDaily and on the web to have a simple knowledge of the building itself and the intention of it. Then I started to model the project, first I modeled the basic walls and then the interior walls, after that I modeled the facade, then the frames and windows.

Having the model and a good knowledge of the project I started to search for references of what I had in mind. Then I started to make basic concepts in Photoshop with the reference images and photos of the building.

I have never been in Sweden, the only thing I knew about Sweden was SAAB. So, before making the concept, I started to study landscapes and history of Sweden/Kalmar. Instead of copying surrounding of the building, I decided to put this building to some unexpected place, of course this place should depict the rich landscape of Sweden. I was also looking for some interesting facts in history of Sweden/Kalmar, which would help me in story line. So, the most interesting part for me was that Sweden has never been in a war around 200 years, which is really unbelievable.. I dig deeper in a war history of Sweden, and as I expected it was really bloody. The nations that sacrifice the most, have strong immune not be fool again. My concept is about sacrifice, for all these people who died in war and who has paid the biggest price for peaceful life in modern times.
I’ll have two symbols in my project.
First – The pit with a small channel in opposite to entrance, which will symbolize a sacrifice.
Second – The Viking ship in zero gravity, inside of the building. Which will symbolize peace. Overall, this building reminds me viking vessel with its dark wood and cladding.

I understand that this concept is too complex for this challenge and I didn’t have an opportunity to put interior scene. So, I made a decision to finish this project in two steps. For Tomorrow Challenge short description with one exterior image should be enough. For my portfolio I will add all interior images with full description.

After some camera testing, I’ve decided to pull back the camera and not to show the building as “in your face” but go with “photographers” approach and make little more complex composition.
As for the atmosphere I’ll go something like an afternoon semi-foggy early spring day kinda of feel. -Something between two references with a “pinch” of sunlight.
Also I did the quick conceptual drawing with the very rough color pallet I will use. -The idea is ready for the story to evolve.
