Tomorrow Challenge entry by User-76359395

Here I present my final submission. It’s been fun working on this challenge this month since I recently finished a course on archviz and I already got an itch for more work of this kind. I also got to do an exterior shot, which I haven’t done many and keep practising on software I haven’t touched so much.
Anyway, thanks Tomorrow and Ronen for the opportunity and good luck to everyone else!

So it seems I’ve skipped the concept image post even though the challenge is coming to an end. So here I submit the image that inspired my work for this challenge before I upload the final result.
It is a photograph of James Turrell’s Stone Sky, that came to my mind inmediately after I saw the photos of the museum featured in the blog and Archdaily.
So I began my work around the idea of the double symmetry composition of this square shaped form reflecting on a water body.

Here I present the final stage of the project before the final render and postproduction. I’d like to wrap up by commenting a little on the tools I’ve used for the challenge.
Everything is modelled from scratch in 3ds Max using plans and photographs as reference. The trees are an exception, they’ve been modelled in ZBrush, which I’m beggining to explore this day. Complex mapping has been done on Photoshop.
The scene is rendered with VRay and postproduction will be done on Photoshop as well.

Continuing form lasts week’s work, I’ve added the old pavilion and set up UVs for both new and old buildings. Then I worked on the materials and maps for them and the pond’s soil and borders. I keep trying lighting and color to achieve the mood I want for the image. Now the main subjects are mostly placed, I’ll go on working with the landscape.

Upon checking the documentation provided, I started building the model of the main subject of the image using the plans and photographs as reference, getting familiar with the building. Once the main building was nearly done, I started testing composition and lighting, with ideas of reflections and warm and cool lights contrast in mind. Next step will be modeling the remaining part of the museum and texturing it, before fleshing up the environment a bit.
