A Concrete Cube House by Studio MK27

I love concrete! Why bother covering it up when done right it looks so good and ages so nicely. I guess it is an acquired taste. Living in a place with so many brutalist architecture examples around, adding the fact I used to shadow my civil engineer father on his site rounds and it is pretty obvious how it entered my system. I’ll start the week by showcasing the Cube House by Marcio Kogan as photographed by Fernando Guerra… both of which I admire and follow pretty closely. From the various methods of casting concrete, the wood planks cast used here is what I love the most. It feels more natural and works very well with the landscaping. There are some pretty amazing shots here.

Hurst House by John Pardey Architects + Ström Architects

The Hurst House by John Pardey Architects + Ström Architects is simple, clean and beautiful. That hovering box thing has been done and redone so many times, but I like it – it works… and looks great at night (if you’re not too shy)! This set of photos is great reference for stone and wood facade cladding and as it happens – this house has severed as inspiration for the BEST Visualization of WEEK No. 17 by lichtecht, who offered it in concrete.

Syros House by Myrto Miliou

It’s very hot in here now. Feels like the middle of summer, and I’m working on a design using mostly rough stones, so I’m thinking the Syros House by Myrto Miliou Architects will be a perfect inspirational fit to share with you all. It sure did inspire me today! The photos have very good stone detail in them and a strong feel of hot summer (seems to me they were treated to accentuate that). I find myself drawn towards this type of “earthy” architecture more and more lately. feels cosy.

LTD_1 by Peter Ruge Architekten

Following up on the “Follow the line” facade style building showcased a couple of weeks back with MAD Architects ‘Absolute Towers’, I’m showcasing today the LTD_1 building designed by Peter Ruge Architekten. I’m gathering several such projects examples in light of the upcoming RailClone update. This one also reminds me a lot of Bertrand’s entry for the RailClone miniCHALLENGE. Should be fun recreating this like that.

Enjoy this great set of photos by Joe Fletcher showcasing the house nestled in the green surroundings of Carmel, California (Location, location… location) with warm wooden interior and a fabulous dusk shot.

Ridge Road Residence / StudioFour

I found the Ridge Road Residence by StudioFour after seeing an interview with Australian Architectural Photographer Shannon McGrath on the TWiT Photo show dated June 26, 2012 (episode 63). Catherine Hall and Leo Laporte conducted an hour long interview with Shannon which you must see. Anyway, I looked for some projects she took pictures of and found this one, a great looking set (architecturally too) referencing dark wood / white combination and a toned down a la monochromatic exterior treatment.
