Render vs. Photo / Kitchen No. 01

October 23, 2012 |  by  |  Render vs. Photo

Forum newcomer and long time Cinema 4D + VRay user, Vicky Bedford (@Tickytoria), made the switch and shared her first attempt using 3ds max + VRay on the forums. Picking up on a reference found on Pinterest, Vicky went for an exact matching to start with – with great success. It seems that the transition went pretty smooth looking at the results! but then… why wouldn’t it? Modeling is not the big issue in making a visual like this, it’s all the other things that count. VRay is VRay, despite the various differences in versions. I do wonder which platform is best for modeling though?

Render vs. Photo / Loft Apartment in Kiev by 2B Group

Render vs. Photo / Loft Apartment in Kiev by 2B Group

April 10, 2012 |  by  |  Render vs. Photo

Forum newcomer, Ryan Coyoca, posted one of the best photo-matched renders I’ve seen to date! The real photo actually looks more like the render in this case. The matching render is only a part of a more extensive 3d recreation project of a Loft Apartment in Kiev, designed by 2B.GROUP. Clearly inspired by the works of Bertrand Benoit (and stated as such), it takes nothing from this remarkable achievement. The border between CG & Photography just keeps blurring more and more.

Render vs. Photo / KUU xcoma bar

February 2, 2012 |  by  |  Render vs. Photo

Forum newcomer, Federico, posted a very nice photo-matching work based on a photo of the xcoma bar by KUU in xian, China. Although his camera is clearly lower and farther away than the original, all other aspects of his render are done remarkably well. The general lighting is very similar and the materials too (besides the ceiling concrete, which is a bit too rough). This is a great start on the forum!

Render vs. Photo / Room Room House

Forum member Jannyltd posted a great looking photo-matching attempt based on Room Room House by Takeshi Hosaka Architects in Tokyo. The reference photo called for a complete street recreation in 3d that Janny performed very well… it’s not 100% accurate but the general look and feel is very similar. Great work!

Gama Issa House Animation by Wizarc Studio

Gama Issa House Animation by Wizarc Studio

February 11, 2011 |  by  |  From The Web, Render vs. Photo

Take a look at this CG remake of Marcio Kogan’s Gama Issa House done by Wizarc Studio. They have done a great job showcasing this house and outputted a remarkably clean Maxwell Render animation! I also took some screen captures and compared them with real photos of the house as taken by photographer Arnaldo Pappalardo. It is clear that they used those photos as key points during the animation and the matching is really good.

Render vs. Photo / The Trojan House

Render vs. Photo / The Trojan House

February 2, 2011 |  by  |  Render vs. Photo

I’ve posted about the Trojan House by Jackson Clements Burrows Architects almost a year ago and seeing Behrendt’s rendered versions based on it on the forums sparked the Render vs. Photo theme I play with all over again. As you can see in the image above, even though he didn’t actually went for total resemblance, the match is really good!
