In the course of time

We live in a temporary world, everything is threatened to change and be replaced. As humans, we are in need of stability which is why we keep looking for a place that will remain.
I believe that the Stockholm Public Library is one exemple of these places that shall remain. A landmark that will be ultimately recognized by the observer no matter how many years have passed.
In this image I capture this building in a far away future, where the whole surrounding have been replaced by high uncharacteristic skyscrapers. Although the library appears to have been renovated in an effort to merge it with the nearby style, its uniqueness is obvious.
On a cold winter morning, people run along the frozen river, on their way to the library, seeking shelther from the upcoming storm.Their eyes only seek the library and their souls seek the books inside. Those books are timeless, they are the key of the building’s immortality. There is no time for books, as they are a concrete representation of time passed. Therefore, there is no time for a library, it is everlasting. It is a place that remains.

Early Bird Final Submission

Hello !

All the textures you see in this render are made with Substance Painter / Substance Designer, or both. For some textures i started from scratch and for some used Substance Source materials and modified them to my liking. Unwrapping, exporting, importing, going back and forth from 3ds Max to Substance for every object just brings tons of workload (I’m not blaming the software, it is awesome and still pretty much the only way to achieve what i wanted). In the end, the raw render was kind of far from what i expected. So this is where i gave up. Having a full-time job, i realised i just can’t go back and do all the texturing again.

Still, i wanted to finish at least this one scene for my previous efforts. It is very simple : Hdri overcast lighting with a few other lights, 2-leveled environment fog, and a little post production work.

Anyways, thank you for the challenge and i wish good luck to everyone participating.

Stockholm Public Library- Transitional Spaces

Hi everyone, here are my final submissions for the competition. Feel free to leave me any comments, feedback, etc.

For this round of tertiary detail and texturing, I made heavy use of procedural dirt materials using Coronas AO node, as well as several techniques of layering materials with the Corona Layered Material. The people are all 2D and have been re-lit to match the scene lighting. All narrative elements are true to the concept board I posted earlier. Good luck to everyone!

City Library- Stockholm

Concept,

For this project I have choose early morning scene inspired from the environment inside the library which is calm, scilence and peaceful. This idea triggerd while I was watching “Monsters University” were there is a library scene in which they had a task to collect there flag whithout making any noise and thats when I got the idea to make a very fresh, calm and peaceful environment and thats how I choose to go with Early morning scene were the first rays of the sun hitting the building and making it glow.

I wanted to keep surrounding as subtle as possible and have a main focus on the the library for which I shown morning rays falling on the building and the surrounding is still in quite dark.

For Interior View I was very confused between couple of camera angles and which camera would go with the exterior concept and while i was looking for references i came across couple of images were sunlight is entering inside the building and creating a beam of rays and thats what i thought will go best with my Interior view were rays of light is entering inside the library and creating a very fresh and calm environment.

For This Project I have used Corona Renderer and Forest pack. I have Used PG HDRI (0839 Cloudy Dawn) for both exterior views.

It was first time I making anyproject like this so i tried to keep it as simple and realistic as possible.

I am very happy with the final output and didnt do much of an editing in photoshop just little bit of colour correction.

I hope you like it too..

Final Images

Hey everybody, I’ve just finished up putting together my PDF to turn in, so here are the final images I created! My main goal was to put together a story line that ties the three images together. I needed the images to have more than just the building in common in order for there to be a story, so I photographed the same girl and used her as the main character for each different view. We follow her on a day spent at the library, from waiting for the doors to open, to walking home after a rainstorm. I’m really happy with the way each image turned out, and I learned a few new tricks throughout the process!

G.Asplund’s Library visualization by Anna Cholan

This competition was very interesting experience for me. The more I learned about the library, the more I
understood how much it overcome. Its architecture shows how important knowledge is in our lives.

When I felt architecture I want to combine its majesty with urban ordinary life. Thus, on the exterior visualization
we can see the light of the rising sun which illuminates the house of knowledge.

For the bustle of everyday life, we forget about the important things that shaped us. We must remember that
without knowledge we would not be today and never will be tomorrow.
