CABINS / roldannarag : CALLAO CABIN

When I went for vacation in the Phillipines..we visit the place called Callao Cave.. Callao Cave is one of the limestone caves located in the municipality of Peñablanca, Cagayan province, most popular caves in the Philippines and the best known tourist attraction. Thats why my entry name called Callao Cabin..when I saw this place I was amazed for the greenest and calm of the environment it was amazing beautiful.. While we were in the area we tried also the the boat which made by wood and witness the scenic rocky cliffs, with clean greenish water ideal for swimming. It was co incident while browsing the internet I saw this Cabin Challenge..and the very first came into my mind is the callao cave and I was thinking that time what if I will make a beautiful cabin in this place..

First of all, I’ve made the rough sketch in which I tried to build the scene that is interesting all 360 degrees around. Thus we have a deep hazy valley with some nice vistas, the cabins scattered along the ridge of the mountains and some uphill background leading to the glacier dimmed by the dark clouds.
I started my work on two elements: the mountains behind the valley and the cabins, certainly. I used world machine for the first one and did some extra refining in zbrush to get the details I wanted. Then some scattering and hand painting. I am not very glad about the results yet but it will be a hazy part of the image so it doesn’t need to be totally flawless after all.
The cabins are to look like some white ephemeral monoliths that stand out from the environment. They would appear from the valley like the row of Nordic gods, guarding the ridge above, being taken straight from some myth. Maintaining this poetry of the form is more important to me that perfecting the function of the shelter. In the end, this is CGI and its utmost fun is playing with space and mood in the way that architects cannot afford due to all the limitations of the real-life situation.
I built the wooden frame of the cabins and used zbrush to model the cap of the chimney (for the central fireplace). The external semi-translucent fabric was simulated in marvellous designer and refined in 3ds max. I want to keep it wrinkled and untidy.

I went past a weekend-house on a lake last winter, a small house with amazing view which inspired me much to re-create such setting.
After starting to mock up a scene in 3d and playing with the layout of the building i remembered a project i wanted to take on for ages: Some kind of “System” for small get-away-homes – kind of a “formula”
Well I went on with the initial plan to design a set of small houses, define facade systems and landscape to some kind of generically combine those.
I started this during summer holidays. The project went to sleep after that, unfortunately.

Just to be woken up again by this challenge.
Long story short: I will take one of the small houses I layed out (it is the U-shaped one, inspired by a building by toop architectuur) willing to place it in a setting similar to the forests surrounding my home town – sandy baltic pine forests.

I am very excited to get this going – and work some more on nice landscaping detail 🙂

So far just the cabins modelled in 3DS Max, with an architectural background the cabins seem to be the easy part, the landscape is proving a little harder and I’m busy watching tutorials on anything that will produce a terrain that looks right. I have UE4 and am exploring the terrain generation process but would really appreciate any hints on producing realistic rocks, coastlines etc.
