Last year the University of Technology Sydney engaged me to create a 3 minute animation for them to show off of the new UTS Central building currently under construction. The aim was to focus on 4 key areas:
1) The exterior of the building in context with the rest of the campus masterplan
2) The main interior student lobby
3) The magnificent library reading room
4) The new basement “Superlab”.

Already having many of the master-plan assets from previous animations completed for UTS, I still had to change many areas, including the Alumni Green space to be accurate to what had been built.

I completed the full animation in about 3 months. The only help I had was in modelling some custom furniture and some custom scripting. Rendering was outsourced to GarageFarm on the cloud.

The interior still images of the library were offered to the client free of charge, as a gesture of good will. They required considerable work but I had spare time and the building was so nice, I wanted to show it off.

This image was done to show off a concept design for high end accommodation retreats. Backplate panoramic photography was shot on location in Apollo Bay, Victoria, Australia. Some foreground plants were maintained, but most were replaced using Forest Pro in 3dsmax. Some photoshop relighting and sky replacement was also done.

A little about the project:

THE ACCOMMODATION PODS are designed as self-sufficient prefab units for easy delivery and installation. Designed with integrated water storage tanks PV panels and power battery storage, The ACCOMMODATION POD is clad in a composite timber cladding, and made from recycled wood waste.

These renders were done for a client who designed this prefab building as a concept which was never further developed. He wanted to show it’s potential, situated in a remote environment. He particularly wanted to see it on the bank of a river or lake.

After receiving his mood board, I knew it would be difficult to find quality photographs of a location from multiple angles to use as backplates. Also, doing the environment in full CG would be time consuming and not necessarily the best result. So I found some panoramas from a trek I did a few years ago in Tasmania, called the Overland Track, which were perfect. It was very remote and I knew it would be a perfect backdrop. I just needed to include a lake and extra vegetation in 3D in order to integrate it. Sky was also replaced on one of the external shots.

Client was very happy with the result.
