House DS / GRAUX & BAEYENS architecten

Jump starting this week with an inspriation piece from GRAUX & BAEYENS architecten. The photo set taken for their DS House by photographer Julien Lanoo have a very familiar look & feel to them… can you guess what I’m thinking about? Some of them look more like renders then photos, but I like it. The toned down colors, framing and the great reference these are for materials such as grass, glass, metal & wood.

Shell / ARTechnic architects

The year 2007 ended with Alex Roman showcasing his ‘Forest Refuge’ house renders, and since then we have been overloaded with these types of renders. Some good, some bad and some truly remarkable. It got to a point were a debate started about “who would ever build a house like that in a forest” and a general feel of boredom from it started to emerged… well, I know these houses are being built and reality surpasses any render I’ve seen in the form of the Shell house by ARTechnic architects. It is probably the best example for it that I’ve seen to date! And guess what? someone just recreated it in 3d too!

PREFAB Desert House by Marmol Radziner

I have a soft spot for PREFAB residential designs and this one by Marmol Radziner sure is a nice one. Designed for Leo Marmol and his wife Alisa Becket, the Desert House, Located on a five-acre site in Desert Hot Springs, California, employs four house modules and six deck modules. Sheltered living spaces blend the indoors with the outdoors, simultaneously extending and connecting the house to the north wing, which holds a guest house and studio space. Great reference for how a small architectural metallic subject looks in a desert environment.

Paraty House / Marcio Kogan

As previously stated, I love just about any project Marcio Kogan turns out and Paraty House is no exception… I even think that this house is his best so far. The combination of an amazing site, secluded inside a Brazilian island cove accessed by boat only, and great architectural interpretation of simple boxes, makes one of the more compelling houses I’ve seen to date.

Bauhaus at Dessau by Walter Gropius

The Bauhaus School at Dessau was the brainchild of German architect Walter Gropius. Building it along the lines of what we later came to know as the International Style as well as teaching and developing it day by day by the teachers and students that called this place a home. I love this style and building and Bertrand Benoit gave me a great excuse to post it here as inspiration following his 3d virtual version remake of it.

Casa Gatica / Felipe Assadi and Francisca Pulido

It is amazing how architects keep reusing the dual box on box basic idea and yet make something unique with style of its own. Gatica House by Felipe Assadi and Francisca Pulido is a great example for that. This set of photos is a great reference for materials such as grass, pebbles, dark stone, concrete & wood. Not sure I like the dark interiors so much but the site and dusk photos are great.
