I tweeted about a “Render Engine” license up for grabs a few days ago and I can share a little more now about the way to win it. I’m about to launch an architectural visualization rendering challenge soon, I’m still working on the small details but first prize will include a VRay or Maxwell Render license.
The model for this challenge will be provided for you, and though I’m almost sure it’s going to be a very nice house I’m about to finish modeling in a few days (Hinting it above), I’m also exploring a second option of providing a modular dwelling unit capable of being duplicated and thus each participant will be able to create his own habitat.
I’ll post full details as soon as I get it all done and ready but please share your thoughts about the theme in this quick poll.
[added november 24th]
Added to the prize list:
- ASGVIS, Vray for SketchUP
- ASGVIS, Vray for Rhino
- Informatix, Piranesi 6.0
[added november 25th]
Added to the prize list:
- Itoo Software, Forest Pack Pro 3.2.10
More great news, joining me to the judging panel is someone you all know very well – Architect, Photographer and 3D Artist Peter Guthrie!
Peter truly mastered the use of V-Ray in Architectural Visualization. His latest Farnsworth House imagery is nothing short of amazing.
I’m very happy he’s on board.

Nice to see you visiting here :-) hope you'll join in showing what can be done with SketchUP + VRay combo
I'm going to add a people's choice category to the challenge and so i started to test a rating system built into this site... you will see at each post end a star rating widget - please use it so i can test this in action. Thanks!
As soon as possible... I still have some work to do, to set it all up. I think it will be reasonable to say that within a week or two from today - but I'll let you all know soon enough.
By the way... Grand prize just changed a few minutes ago :-) you will love it!
Give a big welcome to Itoo Software, Joining to sponsor the Challenge with Forest Pack Pro Licenses... so you could scatter those trees and other things you always wanted too!
Well, we can do it for fun :-)
But i don't think I will have the time to manage it all and submit something good too. Peter might! without his work actually being taking into account in the judging.

A message to all those posting comments and those who plan to - you should get a gravatar so we all can see your pretty faces :-) you can do at here http://en.gravatar.com/
I think 2 months is just perfect. Should be more than enough for quality interior/exterior scene.
How about the first prize: Are you going to pick one before the official announcement or will you let the winner to pick one after the whole thing?
I plan to publish it before we start, though I might do it as you suggested - first place gets to pick his favorite first, then second...
Hi Dave, it will be nice to see you joining in and have a go with Fryrender - still using it are you?
indeed well if i can get the time i shall def do it always fancied doing one of these :) and yes we need more fry guys joining :)
I hope so too... the challenge time frame will be around two months I think, so that people will have enough time to put in to it. I also would like the final submission to be a combo of an exterior and an interior image.
what do you think about it?
