    Default Foothills house

    Bonjour!!

Been visiting this site for a while now and really impressed not just with the level of work on here, but the actual site as well, nice one Ronen!!

Anyway thought I would add my input.

Got a lot of inspiration from the foothills house in New Zealand by the Strachan Group Architects.

It was modeled in Sketchup and then rendered in Vray with a minor amount of postwork done in PS.

Still a load of modeling, texturing and postwork to do. I tried to give the second pic a bit of a green tint, but may have over killed it a bit. Not sure I I really like the effect, might alter that.

Not to fond of the decking texture, so think I will change this.

Would appreciate C&C as I feel I have a long way to go yet and there is a lot of people on this site with some valuable knowledge.

looking good, what you need is some 3d grass!, maybe some props in the pool

I think your first image is your best there.

In the last image, the water doesn't look realistic to me, and the water looks too deep. The refraction of the water would make the pool look shallower than it actually is.

Also your wood texture in the foreground, in my opinion, has lost its interest. In the first image it has really nice contrast and colour which match the buildings. I know the sun position has changed, so you aren't going to have that specular highlight, but I would look to add some more reflection, bump, and probably model each piece of wood (floor generator would be ideal for this) for the most realism, as it is so close to the camera.

For the grass, I don't know if 3D grass and plants are totally necessary as it's not the main focus of the image, but I would at least overlay a photograph of grass, and paint some grass growing up the edges of the grass.

    Default Mm..

I love it. To be honest the second slightly greenish vertion most. It's rare to see this kind of coloring in real world, but it looks romantic =)

As for cnc or some tips, maybe some grass blades sticking through the flor in the end and near the wall would be nice as in real world it's hard to cut every blade of grass in these places. But that's minor issue =)

the more noticible one is that interior is kind'a dark. And i know, that's what you would get when you would be photographing with real world camera, because of really bright lightsource in front. But it's a work for You to bring something out from that, maybe nice reflection or somekind of vividnes by adding characters, other props =) think up, be creative!

    Overall really nice work.

One more. You could introduce some water drops or wet surface shader for the planks =) that would be nice too =) if You would be looking for kinda after the rain mood =) but that's just a thought as You probably looking for a different mood, atmosphere=)

    Cheers

Thank you for the comments, every bit of advice is greatly appreciated.

    Monad:

As this was created in sketchup the only way I know of adding 3d looking grass is to use make fur plugin, the problem with this is that it increases the poly count tenfold which SU really struggles with. I have added displacement but this doesn't appear to have worked to well. To be honest I really need to learn 3ds max as I am aware that this gives much better results. And I think your right, some props would be good, the scene is looking a bit bare at the moment.

    DeanPunchard:
I think your right about the water, I also preferred how it was before, gonna alter it again. As for the decking in the foreground, I didn't like the texture in the first image as it was a really low res. Taken on board your thoughts though and will tweak the decking.

As for grass until I learn 3ds max I think I'm just gonna try and get a better result using PS.

Once again thanks for the comments, I should hopefully have another post by tomorrow C&Cs always welcome this how we all improve

Thank you for the comments glimpse, I think some grass blades would add a nice touch. As for lighting the interior, I do intend to work on this at some point but for the time being there is still a lot of modelling and texturing to do with in the inside so didn't really want to draw attention to it...at some point it will be done though

I've since PS some grass, however I'm not sure if it fits in that well, it might be me but it seems as if my eyes get drawn towards it. Sometimes it's hard to know if I'm actually improving it or making it worse.

Anyway its all a learning curve.

Been a little while since I worked on this piece, but this is my latest update.

Ignore the interior still a lot of work to do.

I'm sorry for the low res image.

    As always C&C welcome
