Default Displacement map causing inconsistent CPU load.

Hei, and merry Christmas to all.
I'm fairly new to vray and 3ds max, and facing an issue that does not make much sense to me.
Problem is that as soon as I add an displacement map to my material the CPU loads everything but 100%. It seems to go from 35% to 70% and back.

As soon as i delete the displacement map everything goes back to normal.
    Im running 3ds max 12, vray2 and Windows 7 64bit.
My CPU is a 4 core AMD 955.

    Thank you.

Hi, and merry christmas to you too !

Maybe you don't have enough RAM and it loads and unloads geometry constantly so it can't compute the data smoothly ?

Thanks for the reply, but it turns out there was something in the render settings causing it. No idea of what it was though.
