free distributed render farm

I actually was wondering why nobody had the idea of a free distributed render farm app until now. Let's say on the one hand I offer my computing power, on the other hand I'm able to use the power of the community when i need it. A credit system could ensure a fair use. Futher a basic serverfam could be be set up by donations.
What do you think about that? Would it be technically possible at all or is it just a wired phantasm?

"Render with cloud computing" or BURP seems to be the code word. There are already some project running based on blender:

For commercial engiens like Vray the question of authorization must be solved (no open source code). But wouldn't it be a good sales argument to include cloud computing for licenced chaos group products? Hope some geeks could solve that problem one day - I'm really into the idea of sharing render power.
