So my starting point has be, how I'm going to adapt to the Maxwell Rendere.
First off I have to investigate how things that I normally do in Vray, is being done in Maxwell Renderer..
I've found this on Nextlimits website, Maxwell Studio - Tutorials - Next Limit support site , which covers a lot of basic stuff.
Any other tutorial sites for 3DsMax+Maxwell are very welcome and appreciated.

Oh my gosh..
I'm wondering if I really want to enter this competition or not. The learning curve for Maxwell is so steep when you got no freakin' clue what's going on. Even putting lights into the light holes in the museum is getting me nowhere.
And with an .EXR file in the Image Based Environment Lighting tab. Everytime to render it has to process that .EXR file and it takes like 1 minute too long before I get impatient.

hello
for the light you can use light material for the circles quickly than you can choose ies to use it.
you can use maxwell studio without 3dsmax.

Yeah I don't know why the previews of the balls are very rough. I don't think it's a GFXCard problem. I'd just imagine that wouldn't block it for making a little preview. I know Materials can get rough on Vray when watching them in the ME. But that's usually just because it has to preload all the maps.
There's a seperate program for viewing materials, It called the Maxwell Material Editor (mxed.exe in your Maxwell folder)
There you can preview your library and materials

Thanks for the hint. But I'd prefer if I could get the IES profiles working. I know there's a lot of light sources and from a rendertime perspective, it might not be so clever renderingtime-wise to get 700 x IES.. But I wanna try it before I disregard the idea.

Yeah I couldn't figure out why Maxwell didn't show new materials as well. But there is a preview button in the Material Settings. I don't know if Maxwell can be set to do that automatically??
Hi, I suggest you to never use the preview button in the 3ds max material editor, instead click the MXED button, this will open the Maxwell material editor where you can preview and create your materials. This is the better workflow to create materials in 3ds max with Maxwell.

Any ideas?
have you had a chance to copy the license code from the email MAXWELL sent you into the program at all prior to the error?
1. if so, i'm not really sure why this is happening.
2. if not - and i ask this about the license code because i had to do this to get the program to function - go to c:\program files\next limit\maxwell (2)\ ... and look for the license.txt file. if the text doc has 0 KB below, open the file, enter that license coding here (copy-paste everything from the hashtags string to "# LICENSE ENDS HERE"), save, then close. i may have restarted my computer afterwards but i don't think it's necessary. you should be able to open the program and it be fully functional.
if you still have trouble after this, i would contact their support team. or hope there is someone very IT savvy in this challenge who can get you past this. again, this was just what i did when maxwell wouldn't open for me either and it worked.
