Mike, I almost tossed in some dude doing a cannon ball of the roof deck...

I hope my final image holds up to what people are expecting! I personally like it less and less... Like Mike said, I think it needs a lot more work as far as the architecture goes... right now it is just some of the base elements copied around with some simple polys to act as the wood cladding.

I sat up last night after I had both kids in bed and started a new concept... I don't think the current is far enough out of my comfort range, and I wouldn't mind using this competition as a means to push myself.

I have an idea that is grounded in reality but is more fantastical and larger scale than the current concept. I have been thinking about the image and presentation for over a year now, but never had time (or maybe the ambition ) to start it...

I will finish up my mattes and sketches in the next day or so and post the concept image before I take off surfing for a week or two.

When I get back from the island, I will pick one and go with it.
Sounds super interesting... Looking forward to see what you come up with :-)

I just pulled an all nighter at work to finish a DP package... so I will not finish any modeling before I head off on vacation. I need a break.

I did have a few minutes to sketch though so I will put those up!

    Anyways... my new concept.

I recently read that there is a possibility in the future that global warming will be severe enough to greatly increase the levels of our oceans. And coupled with a change in tilt to the earth's rotational axis our ocean levels could rise anywhere from 30 - 60 meters (100 - 200 ft).

What happens in a few centuries when nature and man-kinds abuse of the environment has had a large enough impact to drastically alter the land masses we inhabit? How will this affect society and common construction practices we currently use?

I would like to explore the changes a rise in water level would make to the cityscape of Vancouver (Lions Gate Bridge and downtown) and how we could possibly use existing structures to facilitate communities and their population growth.

When I am rested up and get back home in a week, I will model up my concept images and scan a few more sketches which I will probably do to keep the ideas fresh in my mind...

ok! I'm back! I'm crazy busy at work, so I don't really see much free time for the next week or so, but here is a quick little mock-up of the general idea of concept number 2 and some reference images of the area...

basically like my previous post, everything is flooded so people have been forced to create living space using the structures that are available...
