    Default The Ultimate Provocation

    First of all, hello

I'm new to this forum, and I'd like to use the opportunity to thank all posters for the great works & tutorials they publish here.

I'll add my contribution to this community by participating to the Hover challenge. I'm a self trained 3D amateur, and I'll do my best.

I called it "The Ultimate Provocation" : it's a nightmare vision that I had, where a real estate developper has convinced the Egyptian government to build a hotel on the Kheops pyramid in Gizah.
The Rooms, look like glass pyramids (like the one in Le Louvre), hovering on the slopes of the great pyramid, facing a large swimming pool.

    Here's my final render :
    (high resolution image here)

At first, I thought about integrating my objects to a Map Painting or photomontage of the pyramid using a camera-match technique, but I don't seem to find large enough pictures with the viewing angles I search.

I did a quick montage with one of the pictures from the kit so you get an idea of the concept.

I think this might violate at least one Egyptian building code law.. Other than that, cool concept!

    Default August 02 update

I've been ressearching how I could render the pyramids, using only bump and displace shaders.
I'm not really happy with the results, and I prefer the pyramid I modeled with a script.

I also started to work on the hotel rooms, and placed a few bipeds which help me see if things are realistic (I've never been able to have my brain work in 3D ...).
It's for sure going to break many rules. That's why I said it was a nightmare vision ! Tourism pushed to the unacceptable limits.

    Here are a few screenshots.

    Hi,

Still working on furnitures. Today I did the bed that'll be made of stone with egyptian carved bas-reliefs, bed tables, a TV table. The opening in the wall behind the bed will be filled with a mucharabieh that I'll try to make with a material only.

Next, I'll start with the royal cobra on the columns. I know you all die for that ...

Here are the cobras you were all asking for !
Took me a while to figure out the columns size and the way they connect with the pyramid & the slab. Just the extrusion for the cobra's body was a challenge.
It's hard to be a self trained beginner !

I've also been working on the railing. I had a few things in mind that I tried, and I'm quite happy with the Eye of Horus in wrought iron.

I've started to subdivide the glass structure, mostly to create a door to my room.

After that, I tried to add some kind of blinds (all that glass in the middle of the desert will act like a solar oven).

I kind of like the way it looks from the inside, but it's too much from the outside (what's the point in placing all this furniture inside if you can't see it ?)

    What do you think ?

I quickly tried to add curtains (relatively quickly since I could not get the path transform modifier to work), and I like them better (even if in reality they would not provide that much shadow or intimacy ...)

Maybe I'll use a combination of blinds and curtains ...
