    Final Image

    Title: Things that Hover

    1. People shredding the gnar
    2. Clouds
    3. Sweet Jets
    4. apparently, this building and that platform over there.
    5. fabric in a stiff breeze
    6. Spirits when looking to vistas beyond
    7. The boundary between creating photorealistic vs. stylized imagery from a computer... this obviously being more towards the latter of the two.

This has been a fun competiton and I wish I could have spent more time honing this one in, but alas, the deadline has arrived and this is my submission.

I hope to tune more in the future.

Best of luck to all the entrants!

    Original First Post:

Hey out there prefab guru's. Looking forward to the competition.

Here's a rough rough rough pass studying the composition I'm looking at at hinting at some ideas I'm looking to achieve. It's also a first stab at some of the colors, tones, and shapes I'd like to include. Decided to take a different approach this go around by messing with some stuff in photoshop before modeling in 3d.

The concept (*although probably not apparent at all in this image), is to have the prefab pieces come out of the woods to the left and grow into the architecture off to the right.. Hinting at the sustainable nature of prefab construction..

Still working on how to incorporate the Hover theme... and my overall creative schpeal for the piece...

Anyhow, here's a progress shot for now...

    well it looks good,

but did you find the way to bring "hover" to the picture?

i'm having troubles seeing a way it could work due to your 1st post.

Thanks for the comments KoBryant, Good point, definitely still need to work on the hover theme. I've got some ideas I'm putting together.

I'd like to error on the side of not being too sci fi. I think I may take a more grounded approach to the hover theme while suggesting that perhaps the architecture is hovering over a cliff or vast vista beyond. hence the little figire looking over a balcony in the original image... albiet it not very obvious...

Cheers, and thanks again for the crit.

Looks like a great start Mike. I'm also interested in how you will incorporate the Hover theme... I guess you could always toss in a huge cantilever...

Some added textures... I'm kinda hitting that point where I don't know if this is working that well or not...

I'll keep pushing around with it...

The Second image is just a play with possibly having this overhang a large city of sorts... Don't think I like it as much..

Hey Mike, I think you've got something special going on here. Do me a favor? on the top landing's bench, mind turning it around? I can envision my sons on thier skate board going down that great ramp, hitting the raised side of the ramp and lopping off both their legs !!! The silloettes are a good approach.
