Love the idea of using COTS components. Sustainability is what I'm going for, as well as self sufficiency. Not so much a residential space, I envision an office type space which capitalizes on wind and solar for it's power needs. I noticed that there is a server restriction on image size, but I haven't seen what the acceptable "on server" size is? If I've overlooked it, I apologize, mind offering the dimensions? Thanks for hosting what will no doubt be a great exercise.

well, as you may notice I've modified a few things <g>. On my Sunday motorcycle ride I re-visited one of my favorite routes. Unaweep for anyone interested in a fine ride along the Delores River. It dawned on me that in much of the area to even get a structure built you'd need to use a hover. ergo, this image as a start to attempt to capture the mood of a cloudless 105F day with the CD playing Dark Side of the Moon. I forgot my camera, my bad, but friends at rockies-gold.net had one I am using as a reference.

Wow! No words. Your building is amazing... and what can I say of the surroundings!

Nice job. I look forward to your updates

I've tweaked the lighting and did a bit more on the environment. Max and Vue, no post production.

I really like this concept of yours... the structure and site work very well and it looks very real to me. Coming form a marine background I can easily see this as a some kind of sailing club for young children for example.

You can add a nice story to this with small sail or powered boats doing some exercises bottom right in the water... the structure can get some colors too making it more fun.

It might not be visible in this POV but you should think about the approach to the building from the land too to complete the scene both sides.

Can you please elaborate more about the 3ds Max + Vue work... is this using the xStream integration version?

Thanks for your kind comments. Good idea adding some color to the water area. I am working on the front right now. I've tried to keep the parking area hidden from water view.
I am in fact using xStream 7.4 as integrated with max. 2009. One of my first with the combo. I've always been more of a vray guy so this has been a real learning experience for me with mental ray and Vue.

Well, I like the design & visual - but also very much interested in the tech side of it all since using xStream is something I wanted to do for a long time but it never really worked for me...

If your problems were lighting based, as mine were, here is a really good tutorial on the lighting. I MAKE U - Vue Tutorial Also, doing the scale calibration is vital. I'm not well versed with the integration, but a couple of folks at 3DAllusions have a good working knowledge and I'm sure they'd offer a solution if you have specific questions that I can't handle....

i don't know why but something seems off, it's looks as if the building scale is smaller than the surroundings...

    maybe it's just me?

i think it's got something to do with the guy in the boat and the bottom left shrub.
