I'm hoping that they went though as it went to the feedback page after I uploaded them.

There were an awful lot of talented people here and I wish everyone the best.

Forgot to mention Peter's brilliant hdr images were used

I'm not one for entering competitions as I'm usually blown away by the winning entries but I need to try and get up to a higher level of imagery so I'm going to have a go at this one.

My initial reaction to the design was it reminded me of the Schoreder house by Reitveld and I was going to go off in that direction but I saw someone else here had mentioned the DeStijl style.

The design looks like a cross between two of my architecture heroes, Richard Meier and Tadao Ando. I'm leaning more towards a Meier interpretation at the moment and the inspiration for my images will be based on the Southern California Beach House
Richard Meier & Partners Architects LLP

I normally use mental ray and I may stick to my comfort zone but I'm debating about dusting off vray for this. I could try fryrender but I've had zero success with that one.

Hi Patrick, It's great to see you here!

That Meier house concept theme look very good to me... I love his style very much too (It's nice they updated their site finally, allowing for larger images preview)

It will be very interesting to see the GH House all in whites and your mental ray workflow.

    Good Luck!

    Thanks Ronen and Peter.

I'm going to give this a go with Vray for a change. I'll be posting some wip's in a bit. Right now I'm just trying to get my head focused on how things work in VRay as I've been a bit spoiled using MR.

It's great that they updated the website as you can get much more information on the designs now.

Here are some first goes at it with VRay.

In keeping with the beach house project I've deleted the pool as the property sits on the ocean front. I'm not totally convinced of this move so the pool may come back from the dead.

I'm messing around with the material for the enamel tiles and right now it's not doing it for me. I may have to break down and divide up the walls in the model to make them more convincing.

I might save this file out and run the same image in MR just to see the difference.

Thanks Annkos and Bertrand. I'm hoping to post some more images later on. The more I work with this the more I'm wanting to go back to mental ray.

    Default update 06.02.10

After playing around with Vray I decided I was just happier being Mental so I redid all the materials and went back to what I know best.

I have 8 different POV's and unfortunately can only nominate 2 so maybe some comments here will help me make my mind up on which ones to use.

I'd vote for either 1 or 4 for your exterior shot (you do know that for the 2 images 1 must be an exterior and 1 an interior, yes?). I like the first one a lot because it gets you up close and personal with the house and your materials will look great at that distance. It also gives you a glimpse into the house which is nice. Personally though I'd lean a bit more towards something like the 4th one as it shows the overall house and a bit of context which always seems best for a primary arch-viz image.

If I'm not mistaken the last I heard is that there will be the 2 primary images but that the judges will also take a look at any additional images submitted. If that's indeed the case I think all of those exterior shots would make excellent additional submissions as they'll show off the materials and various architectural aspects really well.

As far as the interior shot, I'm having difficulty myself. The straight on shot seems to show off the most, but I have an issue with the sort of 1 point perspective it gives. If you shift the camera to the right you get a nice shot of everything in addition to the large glass wall on the left and thus the site beyond, but at the possible cost of the foreground furniture which sort of wants to have it's back to the camera at that point so that it's facing the beautiful view and not the stairs. But if you shift it to the left you can see the furniture better at the cost of the view which is now at your back and seems to be one of the main architectural features of the house. Afraid I don't have a solution yet, but those are the issues as I see them at least.

    Brodie,

Thanks for the comments. It is rather difficult to pick one single exterior image but I was leaning towards no1 and no5. No 1 reminds me of the Jubilee Church imagery and no 5 is similar pov to the Meier reference project I was basing this on. My gut tells me there will be a lot of 3/4 view submissions so I was trying to avoid being another one.

The interior view was just a quick test and I agree it is a single point perspective. I might move the camera to one side or the other once I get to doing the interior view.

Yeah, it is rather difficult to pick one single exterior image for the GH house. I started out with a pov similar to your no. 5 but as I work along I tend to gravitate toward a pov most are using right now. The GH house has a lot of interesting features that would never show once we pick up one particular pov.
