Default Kiernan May (Chief Ten Beers)

    Hi all,

It looks like a great challenge here, thanks Ronen for organizing one and it's also good to see so many completely different interpretations of the one building!

I've been mucking around on this scene for a week or two but have only just joined. I'll try and post my progress up to now.

    Thanks!

Software I'm using for this project will be Maya and V-Ray...Here's initially what I started off with.

Just trying to find some nice lighting which I think is the most important thing ...I wasn't too happy with this (a bit flat/generic) and I want more colour from the sun.

I found some nice cloudy blue images on CGtextures.com (great resource btw)

All the images are still WIP and are noisy and have some splotchy GI artifacts....some textures suck too...but should be fixed for final image!

Little update. Just reworked lighting, sky and a few key materials. Might need to tweak the shot a little bit..

I think one of the most important spaces in this building is the open living room. I tried to highlight this with the priority of the lights and to make it open and warm... However I've only now noticed that this has created a new problem...I'm not sure if it's really working because there is not much detail inside (too empty) so next round I might add some personal detail there.

Man it's very hard to find some time to do this...but I see so many great entries and threads on here, I think it's really inspired me to have a go at a wider shot with some context next.

    Another update.

Didn't realize until looking at other entries that most of my mesh was corrupt on import! So I redid the whole house again (painful) and added some more environment.

Edit: I think the autumn leaves are fighting with the house. Last update for the night.

Nice. I wouldn't give up on the autumn leaves just yet. I really liked the mood, even though the second image is also very nice.

One thing that's bothering me is the somewhat forbidding brick wall in the foreground.

Agree with BBB3: the wall is blocking something...what?

    Thanks for comments guys.

The wall is part of the original model that Ronen modelled. I didn't think we were allowed to delete it but anyway it's just the courtyard wall...not hiding any mistakes....

The last image captures what it feels to be under an overcast sky. Wonderful rendering!
