Looking pretty good ! I think working in landscape template will be better for the ext scene. Also, that boundary wall can be turn into very interesting landscaping and vegetation.

Peralta2010: Thank you...I really want to keep the wall in place, but I think you are right about needing more vegetation along the wall that is seen from the interior.

I personally think this is gorgeous! Ofcourse it needs tweaking here and there, but this is closer to your original style and concept i think, and thats why i love it.
I think its very difficult mixing PR with NPR, and thats why i was objecting earlier. You know when you have a party planned, say your engagement party for example, and you invite that certain one "extra" friend? You open up a line for so many others asking "so why didnt he invite so and so?". You need to draw lines, and i think now you've stepped back into your concept "area", which is fabulous! =)
Your colours are very rich, and your style is very distinct... Best of luck to you!

Kimaera: Thank you for the kind words of encouragement. Yes, PR+NPR is a very delicate balance. I think that adding hand-drawn elements into the work really helps keep a balance. Also, one of the advantages of this forum is that other people help push you back into balance when you move too far in one direction. I know that what I do isn't typical, but it is how I like to work. I do plan to do some more minor tweaking to add a bit more life to the image.

After being away from working on the challenge for a few weeks I have made some final tweaks to the interior view and thought I would add some commentary.
My starting point was to think of the house as being a haven within an unspoiled landscape, like the attached picture of a rental property in Costa Rica. Surrounded by jungle, but not threatened by it. I wanted the house to look like it was comfortable being in the jungle. To bring these ideas indoors I intended to have a warm glowing space that had many references to nature, such as the wall and ceiling mural facing the camera (my own artwork), the tree columns, and the furnishings made from wood and sculpted into natural forms. I believe that often modern architecture suffers from its lack of decoration, and these are ways to regain that decoration.
For me, primarily using Photoshop with a pen tablet allows me to explore ideas like these faster and with more feeling. Obviously I use Sketchup to define POVs and add some modeling elements and I use either Maxwell or Twilight or both to get a better idea of lighting and reflection, but then work in PS almost exclusively, collaging together outputs from those programs, photographic references and hand drawing. It's a fun process for me.
