My heartfelt thanks to each and everyone in the forum especially to Ronen for hosting such a wonderful challenge.
I was able to finish everything for my interior scene this morning. The render was overexposed to hide some artifacts on the walls. I don't know what these are and the only way to get rid of them quickly was to flood the scene with light. The view outside the window was assembled from 19 separate images rendered over three days while the interior was only rendered in three hours. The exterior scene was done days ago and did some post processing work on it. It was a composite of 24 images rendered in four days. Joining a challenge using only trial versions of software is not the best idea. Most of the time was spent on figuring out how to get around the limitations. The artistic side is always being set aside in favor of what is technically possible. Anyway it can be done. As the saying goes 'If you can't find a way, make a way' (although it may not be the best way). Good luck to all! Cheers! ![]() ![]() ![]() Exterior high res. Interior high res. Background view from dining area high res. Hey guys! I'm joining the challenge. I am new to architectural visualization and not yet very familiar with some of the software packages being used so it's going to be a real challenge! Right now I am only using the free versions of SketchUp and Indigo Renderer. I will also be using trial versions V-Ray for Sketchup & Vue 8. My idea is to place the house on the side of a hill or mountain. If its on a hill it would be facing a large body of water like a lake or sea. If it is on a mountain it would be floating on a sea of clouds. Attached are the wire frames and renderings of the house placed on a hill facing a lake. Last edited by Jeff; 03-15-2010 at 07:22 PM. Welcome to the Challenge Jeffrey... I'm very happy to see a SketchUP + Indigo combo. The first Image look really great as it is already! I think this is the first time i see this many trees rendered directly from SketchUP with a render plugin.
Could you explain a little more how you scattered them on the hill and this proxy thing works with indigo? Great start, looking forward for more. |

Hi Jeff,
It looks great! I knew Indigo was gaining popularity, but now I see why, and it is free? I would really keep the first image as it is too, and add more details, maybe a boardwalk exit to the river and add a boat or yacht. Neat idea to put the house on a hill, I am also thinking about similar idea. |

The first house that came to my mind as reference is Douglas House by Richard Meier as you can see in these two images

The second image looking at the house from the water looks very nice. I think Ronen's Richard Meier reference and suggestions are excellent; would really make the image complete.

Hello Jeff!
Sketchup and Indigo?..impressive setup man! Second render is beautiful, my small suggestion would be to add little color variation to those trees (if you can), just to avoid uniformity. Great post Jeff, keep up wit good stuff! cheers Ivo |

I then used the component spray tool to spray the scene with the dummy objects. The link to the thread about this plug in and download instructions can be found here Last edited by Jeff; 01-03-2010 at 05:59 AM. |

A yatch or a boat fits well on the first rendered image. I'll definitely add it. I maybe also adding a dock or pier. I got this idea of placing the house on the side of a hill from a feng shui book. In Chinese belief, a house with its back resting on a hill and a body of water in front of it would bring happiness and good fortune to the people living in it. I think it's called dragon's den or something not sure though. Last edited by Jeff; 12-31-2009 at 06:55 AM. |
