    Default W Boutique Residential Tower

W Boutique is a 32 stories residential tower located at the heart of Tel-Aviv, Israel. Polytown was asked to follow the design progress and reflect the architects changes in a 3d SketchUP model to help decision making and approvals with city officials.

We worked on this project in stages during the past months... first we made some marketing images, and now some material for approval with city planning officials. They wanted to have a better understanding of the site development.

So... most of the work on the architecture is done with SketchUP, then exported to 3ds max for more detailing and adding the foliage mainly with the help of MultiScatter and VRay for rendering.

Good work . Very nice camera angle for the skyscraper. Although i think it could have been better with more contrast (mainly on the sky)

Architectural speaking i think the building loses the vertical emphasis with that "capitel" solution on the roof.

The tower could have more strengh if the roof was made more of "invisible" surfaces other than concrete top. It would make the tower kinda "disappear" in the clouds.

My 2 cents on the project.

About the renders. Love the detailed garden and HDRI lighting.

    Cheers

nice work on the foliage, has a really nice feel to it. Love the ground fog! (but then you knew I would say that..)

I bet you modelled the tower in about 2 hrs...! Sketchup FTW!

Very nice. Especially the ground level shots.
What library did you use for the flowers? They look very good.

Thanks B... I'm very happy you say so, since we did not use any pre-made library this time - it is all custom made.

    Default nice vegetation!

first of all vegetation. It's sweet!

but fog is..overdone, at least i think so. Why?.. well You got allmost white architecture element..as DIA noticed some contrast would be nice and to put more attencion on building itself would be wice too. In first sight it seems that you're trying to mask the absence of distant environment - but I could be wrong =)..

the other thing..camera corection or photographically talking lense tilting is too tight..the angle shift was too much, for me. It almost seems that the building is wider on upper flors (is it?)..

but it's very subjective. from other than these two points. images look sweet.

Share some flowers, plz.. =) just joking, but it would be nice =)))

    keep going!

Thanks Peter! Fog is KING... but i do it fake style :-)

The tower was very fast to model, yes. it was done in the clients office with the lead architect seating by my side and some basic floor plans to start with. once the tower was done they derived new plans from it and this is how we kept going - with the 3d model being the main design tool.

You got it right... Main reason for fog in these images (other then being very cool) is to mask the absence of background environment.

the perspective correction is a constant issue with this type of buildings... I'm using it 100% of the times... it's just feel right to me. Clients sometimes tend to comment on this but i just can't see diagonal lines for such a building.

The flowers & trees will probably be available via 3DOcean soon. The HDRi i use is already available at 3DOcean as well as others with different light scenarios too.

    Default some thoughts..

corection by itself is nothing wrong, but there are limmits..as to any effect You take.. I'm not a photographer, just a starter..but i think there are some values in tilt/shift that 'looks as normal' - like with the dof.. Try 50mm on full frame ant put some insane f value like 0.2 - than render something - it will not look nice (exept in some cases). the same is here - You look to the picture and think for yourself: so what's the geometry of that building? =) visualisation is for presenting purpose, to give not only the presence, but feeling too..not to raise questions.

hi-rise photography is challanging issue =) for photographers..sometimes it's wise choise to read their forums too..

The fog looks nice. I haven't tried that in vray (maybe in challange..=).

I'de like to ask one more thing if You mind. How do You create HDR's. Under the same algorithm that Peter Guthrie? What Optic/body You've used?..

I appreciate your input on the tilt/shift correction. It was and will keep being a dilemma, especially since I'm a straight lines freak!

My HDRi skydomes are pure CG. I made them using Vue xStream.
