    Default Urban apartment

    Hi,

I'm new here and I'm glad to share some of my free time projects with you.
So here are some images produced with Octane using path tracing PMC and direct lighting.

    Hardware used :

    Two GTX580 3GB

    Render time :
As always it depends from one image to another but it may varies from 2h to about 5h

Basically I render the images using PMC (with or without protals) as it has a better light convergance for indoor renderings. The image is lit with HDR map.
I tend to render a second image using direct lighting and sun for lighting and I mix them together in postpro. It's very fast, about 10 to 20 min, it is a quick way to add sun over a hdr map and it also help removing some residual noise as direct lighting produces sharp surfaces.

    Postprocessing :

    To remove residual noise
To combine PMC and direct lighting images
To fix some lighting and contrast and to improve light entering from windows fx
    To add CA

I'll try to come later on with some more enhanced information about the workflow.

You can see the complete set of renderings here :

Beautiful, makes me really wish to come back to Octane. I wish for better and cheaper gpus in meantime.

Thanks to all for viewing and commenting,

@JurajTalcik : Yep, GPUs are still expensive especially if you would consider acquiring one with much video ram. By the way with the recent coming GTX680, the 580 models price drops down and it's really a worth buy.

fabulous images, I thought of doing something similar in Vray, by effectively cameraMapping the octane render back onto the model, and rendering a separate sun or feature light pass... didn't occur to me to do both renders in Octane

What is 'postpro' by the way?

    Thanks,

@sdwhitton: Well, not sure the VRay camera would match the Octane one, to be checked but indeed it may be simplier to do that in the same renderer. Duno if you mean postpro processes I used for those images or only the one regarding the mix. For the mix I simply used photoshop and applied a variable transparency on the upper layer containing the second image, I simply erase some part if I want to much reveal the first image, nothing special here.
